Architects have often found inspiration in nature. Throughout history, architects such as Joseph Paxton have found inspiration for their structures within plants, giving their buildings strength and form. Gardeners refer to their designs as 'architectural planting' and nature and design are intertwined with one another.
I began to consider these almost abstract approaches to design through my own photography, cropping out unwanted and detracting features that divert from the pure form and lines found within nature. To create these images of abstraction I focused upon the details of plants and buildings that juxtapose the images of line and shape.
This project has been exhibited at Birmingham Botanical Gardens, the Shire Hall gallery Stafford and at Newcastle-under-Lyme Art Gallery.
